A VERY IMPORTANT PERSONAL NOTE FROM ME 5-13-08
Special note to my more mature friends and visitors... I have recently had a horrifying experience, and I want to tell any of you who take Ambien, please please be careful. It can cause very damaging side effects that one can't imagine. Ask your doctor, do the research...trust me.
Once in a great while you come across someone who "has it". This someone has equine in their blood, and was born with it. It's not something that can be learned no matter how much $$$ you spend and how many lessons you take. My friend Jamie "has it". And while Jamie may not have a farm complete with lesson ponies and horses, I'd rank her as one of the best trainers out there. To visit her latest adventure and to see what she's doing, click on the link to "Tag, You're It" below her photo!
This project has taken on a life of its own. I'll keep you posted re: the posting!
I am putting together a special page on my site with banquet photos of the riders (and you are all winners!) as well as photos of from your winning season! A donation of 5% from the proceeds from the banquet photos will go to the BHSA!
We want to know what you're doing...got a new equine friend in your family? Cleared a 3' fence? Trying a new technique in your riding? Share it with us! Please write me at susanetalbot@cox.net, and tell the world!

The Shot that Wasn"t
Too late!
"Out Takes"
Think you want to shoot equestrian? It's not as easy as you might think! Check here to see my misses (and hits!), and also tips on how to shoot equestrian.
The photo above "wasn't" because I shot a second late, and to top it off, well, you can see what you can't see!
Tip #1 - Shoot whenever you can. During the long day that we call a "Horse Show", don't be tempted to take a break during schooling. This may be your only chance to photograph a horse and rider perfectly positioned o/f.
Caring for Your Pony or Horse
Visit these posts for everything from grooming, feeding, "dressing" your pony or horse for shows...
Braiding 101 - Braid the Mane
Shown here, the "running" or Arabian braid (for ponies and horses with longer, free-flowing manes)
In any show ring, you'll be judged not only on your ability to ride, but also on appearances...yours and your mount's. This is where braiding the mane and tail comes into play. There are countless different styles and looks, and the best way to learn is to practice and try different ways (in accordance with the type of horse and show). Not only will "Thunder Bay" look beautiful, but you'll take a trip down memory lane, reminescent of braiding dolls' hair! In addition to braiding for yourself, there are individuals who will actually pay you to braid their horse or pony! Going rate in our area, about $75.00 per horse, but you've got to get up at the crack of dawn to be at the venues before show time.
For more on types of braids, and what this all means, check out my favorite source for anything you can possibly think of!
Braiding the Mane (coming next...braiding the tail, and this is easy!)
Starting at the top, separate a section of mane and braid it firmly down to the end.
After completing all the braids down the neck bands, fold up once or twice and secure with the same method on top of the neck.,
After securing the end with thread or rubber band finish off by braiding the forelock, (take care to keep it straight!)
Gently pluck out any flyaway hair
Hey, that"s Mine!
As a photographer, there is nothing worse than to see one of my photos in publication without my consent (and worse, no photo credit!). Please be respectful of my work (and copyright laws), and ask! I want to include photos here, but I don't want to have to imbed watermarks on each and every one with "Susan Elizabeth Talbot - Proof".
